Who We Are

About the Foundation

Established in 2009, this foundation offers scholarships to anyone who plans on pursuing a career as a Fire Fighter, Police Officer, EMT, or Paramedic. As of 2013 we will also start sending a child to Hoosier Burn Camp every year. We lend our support and help to any tragedies, or catastrafies that may fall opon our communities.

Reason for the Foundation

The foundation was started in memory of Chief Warren "Skip" Highwood who devoted his life to the Brotherhood of Firefighting for 46 years. He became a member of the Chesterton Fire Department in 1962 at the age of 19 and became the first full time firefighter in the Town of Chesterton in 1972. He served as Fire Chief from 1990-2008. With these scholarships his family is hoping to assist an individual(s) in pursuing a career as successful as Chief Highwood's career was protecting and serving his community and country.

Our Mission

The Warren "Skip" Highwood Memorial Foundation is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to honoring the men and women who want to pursue or are currently pursuing a career in Firefighting, Law Enforcement, and Emergency Medical Services.
