Established in 2009, our foundation offers scholarships to anyone who plans on pursuing a career as a Firefighter, Police Officer, EMT, or Paramedic. In 2013, we started sending a child to Hoosier Burn Camp every year. We strive to lend out support and help during any tragedies or catastrophes that may fall upon our community.
Our foundation was started in memory of Fire Chief Warren "Skip" Highwood. He devoted his life to the Brotherhood of Firefighting for 46 years. Skip became a member of the Chesterton Fire Department in 1962 at the age of 19. He became the first full time firefighter in the Town of Chesterton in 1972 and served as Chief from 1990-2008. With these scholarships his family is hoping to assist individuals in pursuing a career as successful as Chief Highwood's career.
The Warren "Skip" Highwood Memorial Foundation is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to honoring the men and women who want to pursue or are currently pursuing a career in firefighting, Law Enforcement, and Emergency Medical Services.
